My name is Tanya, and I work as an HVAC technician. I always have more work than I can handle, and I bring home a good paycheck to my family. When you are trained as an HVAC contractor or technician, you will have skills that are unique and in demand. This blog will tell you how to find proper training and how to get a job once you have completed your education.

How To Optimize Your HVAC System

If you have been experiencing frequent repairs or a high energy bill when running your heater or air conditioner, it is probably time to do some maintenance on the system. One great way to do this is by optimizing the HVAC system. Here are some simple ways to do that.

Empty the Air Filters

One of the most important ways to optimize your HVAC system also happens to be one of the easiest. Whenever you are trying to maintain or improve your air conditioner or heater, you should always start by cleaning out the air filter. You could get pet dander, hair, dust, and dirt caught in the air filter, which will prevent air from flowing through the vents properly. This is often the reason for high energy bills. If the filters are reusable, you will clean them out, otherwise, have them replaced on a routine basis.

Inspect the Blower

The blower inside your unit is what forces heat or air into your home, so it is equally important. Take a look at the blower blades and see if you notice any dirt or debris. Wipe them down if they look dirty. You should also inspect them to see if they are bent. If so, they might need to be repaired or replaced, which an HVAC technician will be able to do for you.

Clean the Air Ducts

The air ducts in your home should also be cleaned on a regular basis. If you are having a problem with your HVAC system, the air ducts might actually be the culprit. When air is pushed through the vents, it first goes through ducts in your home. If they are dirty, the obstruction can keep air from flowing properly. Furthermore, you might end up unclean air which can trigger allergies among your family members. Call a duct cleaning service to have them cleaned out.

Get the Dampers Looked at

There are multiple dampers in your home that should also be inspected, including the fire damper and zone damper. The fire damper is responsible for reducing fire propagation in your home, but will not work properly if there is damage to the damper or it has obstructions from dirt or hair. The same can be said for the zone dampers, which are located in each room of your home. These dampers might be closed during certain seasons, so make sure they are open when you need them.

Call your local HVAC technician, like Elite Heating, Cooling and Plumbing, to further optimize your unit and have quality air or heat your home.
